EMILY Johnston practices close to the earth.

Her work often finds her on her knees by a stream, foraging for rocks to grind into the stone pigments she mixes into paint.

The process is devotional and rooted in a desire for transformation: of our human relationship with the land and the living world we belong to, and of the systems that threaten life on our planet.
